I am a self confessed Beret addict! I can’t get enough of them, bright ones, subtle ones, textured ones, etc etc. I have enough to show and share as my collection has immensely grown call it lockdown boredom with immense need to be occupied . I hope that I will be wearing all of them soon.
If you haven’t made a Beret before, its quiet simple – and the pattern i have written is a beginner friendly pattern which requires you to work in a circle increasing out and then reducing back in.
Before I get started – let me start with the review of the Newly Launched Beanie Yarn from Ganga Acrowools

Yarn Review
Yarn – 100 % Acrylic
Weight Worsted Weight
Variegated Colors – a lot of options to choose from
Weight – 100 Grams ball
The yarn is loosely pilled , however holds the shape and structure when worked with it. I literally finished the beret hat in 40 mins with ease
The final verdict of the yarn
Pros | Cons |
Good Quality Acrylic Yarn | |
Wide Color Options | Currently Variegated only |
Price – Affordable against the Foreign brands Worsted Weight Yarn @ rs 115 per 100 grams ball |
Its another lovely yarn to be added into your stash in case you are fond of worsted weight yarns ,I think Baby Blankets , Cowls and Hats will be amazing in this yarn.
Now Lets get started with the Hickster Beret Cap Pattern
YOU WILL NEED:
Hook: Size 5mm and 5.5 mm Hook
Yarn: Worsted Weight (100g) I used the New Ganga Beanie variegated yarn – so its a perfect 1 skein project
Others: Tapestry Needles , Scissors , Stitch Markers
Lets start with the Hickster Beret Hat Pattern !
For this pattern for the main part of the hat we will be using a 5.5 mm hook and 5 mm for the ribbing. Rather than using a tension gauge and matching it, you want to use the hook that suits you best to get a close stitch tension for a nice firm shape, so change hook accordingly and then if needed you can adjust your round count to reach the desired size.
Beret are usually 30cm in Diameter designed for a standard adult size , depending on your tension do adjust round accordingly lower no of rounds can also fit a child .
Notes
- Chain 2 in the beginning doesn’t count as a stitch
- You can decide if you want a bigger size on round 9 and increase accordingly
Abbreviations
CH – chain
Sl St – Slip Stitch
DC – Double Crochet
2DC – 2 Double Crochet in the same stitch
