Yarn Review – Mohair “Goddess of all Yarns”

Mohair is one of my most favorite fibres to knit / crochet with. I love how versatile it is and how you can incorporate it into such a wide range of projects. It works beautiful on its own, but can add a really special extra element to any other yarn, too.

It retails for drastically different price points across the market. Brands like Wool and the Gang occupy the top end of the market, with their mohair retailing for £11.20 for only 100m of yarn. Most prominent mohair yarns seem to be around £8.00-£10 per 200m, with We Are Knitters, BettaKnitLauren Aston DesignsDebbie BlissSandnes GarnRowan. None of which are available in India !! But if you are going out of country – we sure to pick atleast one of them

If you are not familiar with the mohair yarn – i suggest it would be good to understand a bit about “what is mohair yarn and its categories etc” Mohair Council of America can provide with some good information to begin with. and dont forget to read my how to with mohair if you havent already done 🙂

For Todays comparison I have picked vardhman , Ice, Nako, Yarnkart and Heartbeatsyarn all of them blended mohair yarns and around the same price points. Most of them are mid-range mohair’s with either use of adult does or buck hair that’s why the price point. Lets be clear – these are not Kid Mohair which was released recently by heartbeatsyarn

I have worked with Vardhman Mohair blend, Ice Magic Mohair Blend, and shawlie.

I like the feel and texture of the shawlie and ice magic mohair .. the color options in nako doesnt appeal me and the yarnkart is lace weight and a little ruff for my personal liking, in lace weight and this price point u would buy the kid silk mohair.

I hope you found the comparison of the yarns useful . !
